HEI NABO
Sånafest Hølen (NO), 2024
How do we define (a good) neighborhood? How do we live alongside people whose lives unfold only a few meters away from our own? What kinds of relationships emerge through fences, windows, and everyday routines?
In Hei Nabo, BOYS* IN SYNC moves into the small Norwegian village of Hølen, where two neighboring families open their homes to the audience. One house is a sleek mid-century bungalow; the other, a pre-war wooden house affectionately known by the locals as the “Pippi House.” Standing side by side, they embody different histories, aesthetics, and ways of inhabiting domestic space.
Ragni, Jakob, Gregers and Simon are directing the two families, presenting staged fragments of their everyday life but implementing moments of irritation. Moving through both houses, the audience is becoming part of a choreography of observation and proximity. The performance explores how intimacy and distance coexist in neighborhood relations: how we watch and are watched, how boundaries separate while visibility connects, and how coexistence can be shaped by both exchange and withdrawal…
